Upcoming Horror Movies: Just in time for Halloween
The spooky season is right around the corner, and so are some highly anticipated horror films.
Starting with a classic, Micheal Myers will return on October 15 with “Halloween Kills.” Unlike previous movies from the series, the hunted become the hunters in this thrilling horror movie. According to Sarah El Mahmoud from Cinema Blend, “Halloween Kills” will have the same director and actors as the last movie. Mahmoud also states that this set of movies is expected to become a trilogy with a new movie in production for next year as well.
Next, “Last Night in Soho,” is a psychological horror movie. This movie will release on October 29. This film follows a young designer, played by Thomasin McKenzie, who idolizes a 1960s singer. However, when she is transported back in time and becomes the one she idolizes, everything is not as it seems and sinister events begin to unfold. A film editor out of Fremont, Ohio, Logan Kern, is most excited for this film because “it’s a unique concept that hasn’t been done before, it’s got great actors in it, and the director has made some unique movies before; such as ‘Baby Driver,’ ‘Scott Pilgrim,’ and ‘Shaun of the Dead.’”
Supernatural Horror, “Antlers,” will begin showing in theaters on October 29. In this film, a young boy has an interesting connection with an ancient mythical creature that violently begins murdering people in a small town. How was this creature summoned and how are the people of this town going to survive its feast. Watching this one may make falling asleep a little extra difficult.
Finally, if the feeling of Halloween being over is too depressing and there is room for more horror, check out “Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City” on November 24. This will be the seventh film of the “Resident Evil” series that began back in 2002. This series is based on the many “Resident Evil” video games, which have been around since the 90s. According to Jim Vejvoda, from IGN, “Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City” showcases the origin story of the game series going back to the first two games. Vejvoda also states that Johannes Roberts, writer and director of the film, plans on creating a retro feel to the movie to honor the old games.
With all these great films coming out there are plenty of opportunities to have a spooktastic Halloween. So, head to the theater this fall and catch a scare in honor of this terrifying, yet wonderful, holiday.
As these movies come out and we make our way to the theater to see them (hopefully) I can't wait to hear what everyone thinks of them!
